Serving The Community

We grow when we put what we have learned into practice. Therefore, we encourage you to serve⎯whether within the church, in our community, or around the world – because service leads to life-change.

Serve Our Church

Our church is volunteer driven. We have many opportunities for you to invest yourself here at Lighthouse. Below are just a few of the many ways we could use your help.

WELCOME TEAM

Leader: Charlie Massingill

From greeting our guests with a smile to handing them a bulletin and answering any questions they might have, the welcome team plays an integral role in making people feel at home.

WORSHIP TEAM / AV TEAM

Leader: Pete Dawson

The worship team helps prepare our church to connect with God. There are several ways you can serve: either on stage as part of the worship team, or behind the scenes as part of our Audio-Visual team. Both are integral parts of our worship experience. If you have a desire to use your gifts for God’s glory, then we would love to have you join our team.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY TEAM

Leader: Michelle Getz

One of the greatest investments you can make is investing in the next generation. Each Sunday, our children gather in age-appropriate settings to do crafts, play games and learn about God in a safe, loving environment. If you would like to pour into the future of the church, then we’d love to talk to you about serving in our children’s ministry.

Serve Our Community

God is doing amazing things in our community, and we look
for ways to join Him in radiating His love to our neighbors.
Our church partners with local nonprofits and other churches
to serve our city in the name of Jesus.

FEEDING THE HUNGRY

Leader: Orlando Sanchez

On the second Saturday of every month, we gather with dozens of other believers from around the city to provide food and the good news to the needy within our community. There are three shifts: Set up from 7:30-10 am, Food distribution from 10 am-1 pm and clean-up from 1-3 pm. For more information, go to feedingthehungryoc.com.

YOUNG LIVES

Leader: Sarah Sprague

YoungLives is dedicated to reaching teen moms with the unconditional love of Christ, and encouraging them to become the women and mothers God created them to be. Lighthouse is proud to host the Costa Mesa chapter of YoungLives. For more information on this ministry, click here https://www.younglife.org/foreverykid

TRELLIS’ HOMELESS INITIATIVE

Missionary: John Begin

Homelessness is a very real issue in our community. Thankfully, both the city and the church have taken an active role in addressing it here in Costa Mesa. Working together, we are striving to love our hurting neighbors and help them find refuge. And it’s working. Over the past two years, our efforts have helped over 300 homeless find permanent housing. John Begin is a full-time missionary with Trellis, a parachurch organization dedicated to supporting the outreach efforts of churches in Costa Mesa. John has been walking with the homless in Costa Mesa for years and he now leads Trellis’ homeless initiative. Serve Our World

The mandate to love our neighbors transcends borders. In addition to organizing mission trips throughout the year, Lighthouse supports a number of missionaries who are advancing the gospel around the world.

TIJUANA MISSIONS TRIPS

We have found that the most lasting impact happens when we can build relationships. God has blessed Lighthouse with a long-term relationship with Pastor Refugio “Cuco” Gonzalez and Project Light Ministries in Tijuana, Baja California. Several times each year we make a day-trip down to Tijuana to support Cuco in his ministries. This often includes putting on outreach carnivals for people living near his church as well as ministering at a Men’s Rehabilitation Center. The team also brings clothes and shoes to distribute to the needy within the surrounding community. This is a wonderful mission opportunity for older children and adults. Plus, there’s no cost to participate.

COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP

God is on the move in Costa Rica, and we love joining Him. We have partnered with pastors in the cities of Jaco and Manuel Antonio to help them reach their communities with the love of Jesus Christ. If you are interested in participating, our next trip is February 17 – 25, 2018. It will be both relational (ministering to children and impoverished families) and physical (we will swing a hammer or two).

CRU CENTRAL COAST

Missionaries: Jamey and Gretchen Pappas

For over 20 years, Jamey and Gretchen have been ministering to college students in California’s central coast, particularly on the campuses of Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo and Cuesta College. And God has been using their ministry. Today, they have over 1,000 college students weeky participating in CRU gatherings, and they regularly get to watch God change the eternal trajectory of college students’ lives. WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS

Missionaries: Craig and Sarah Marshall

Craig and Sarah Marshall work with Wycliffe Bible Translators in an Asian country, doing Bible translation and holistic ministry.  They currently lead a team composed of 15 men and women who are translating the New Testament for three Asian groups who don’t yet have the Bible in their language. The Marshalls, who have four children, are based out of the San Diego, CA.

INTERNATIONAL EVANGELISM MINISTRY

Missionary: Marty and Candace Hooper

Marty Hooper, founder of International Evangelism Ministry, has traveled to more than 30 countries to evangelize and train leaders. When he and his wife Candace are not evangelizing across the globe, he loves to come alongside pastors and leaders within the church to equip them to reach their community with the good news of Jesus Christ.
